Home Sweet Home

So much has happened this past week that i don't even know where to start!

We moved the remaining items out of our house last Thursday just a half hour shy of closing on the house... that's how hectic the day was.  I really didn't think we were going to make it in time.

There was one point in the day where I stood in our empty living room and it hit me that we were leaving the house I thought we were going to live in forever.  My eyes got a bit misty and I quickly brushed it off in anticipation of what's to come.  As we were waiting for the last load of laundry to dry, the girls and I went up to Maria's empty room where they actually allowed me to snap a few pictures... a true rarity.

Maria was both happy and sad to be leaving her own room behind.  She refused to leave it for quite awhile and hid in the closet while the buyer came through for the last walk through before closing.  I assured her that living in the trailer was going to be great and she was FINALLY going to use her new bedspread... something she was really excited about.

Scott DID encounter a problem though the night before.  While driving a load of our belongings to the storage unit, a deer decided to jump out of the road and hit the new truck.  Luckily Scott was okay, but the truck wasn't so lucky.  The driver side mirror is cracked and there's a fairly large dent in the rear passenger door.  It's something that doesn't need to get fixed, but insurance will cover most of it.  It was a minor set back that made us question if we were doing the right thing.  I mean come on... the night before we close!?

We pressed on... closed on the house... and proceeded to head to The Buffalo House.  It's a campground/restaurant just outside of Duluth and was the best place to be until Scott found a job in California.

It was barely a half hour after closing that Scott got a call from a nurse recruiter in Sacramento saying that the nurse manager really wanted Scott to fly out for an interview... on his own dime.  Scott had previously talked to the NM the week before and said it wasn't possible.  Let's just say he's getting on a plane Thursday afternoon only to be interviewed on Friday.  The odds are high that he'll get the job and hopefully we'll take off next week sometime.  Fingers crossed!!

To be honest, I wasn't thrilled about coming here.  If I was going to be living in a 34 foot trailer with two kids and a husband, I was going to be somewhere awesome.  Not a few miles out of Duluth... at The Buffalo House!  But it's actually quite nice.  The rolling hills and changing leaves are pretty to look at, there's a playground for the kids, and I'm currently picking up free Internet as I type this which saves me a trip to McDonald's to use their Wifi.

I will point out however, that my first shower in the public showers was not a good one.  They charge 50 cents for 4 minutes and during my 5th minute, the lights went out.  I'm talking PITCH BLACK DARKNESS!!  Holy crap I seriously thought someone was going to come into the shower and kill me!  After gathering my composure, I grabbed my towel and began to walk out towards the toilets.  That's when the lights turned back on and I realized that nobody was going to reenact "Psycho" in the Buffalo House shower room.  Come to find out the shower house is run on sensors.  Well, might I suggest putting sensors in the showers then!  Geesh!

Maria seems to like it here too!  She's obsessed with the buffalo statues and was thrilled when she was able to get up close and personal to them.

Yee Ha!!!

Yesterday was our first night home without Scott.  Before dinner, the girls and I were sitting at the dinette table and Maria suggested I take their picture.  I was so excited because to have Maria sit still and smile for the camera is like pulling teeth.  Ginger loved it and I guess it just goes to show that they're adjusting to the lifestyle change pretty well.

More stories soon!!
